Ragland-Dean connections-Arkansas
Raglands and Deans intermarried in Seacy County Arkansas in late 1830's-early 1840's. I believe two Dean brothers named Wade Hampton & Martin (son's of old Jonathan Dean) married Ragland sisters, Rachel & Elizabeth. Rachel married Wade Hampton & Elizabeth was first wife of Martin. Wade Dean Hampton's wife was my great great great Aunt Rachel RAGLAND, daughter of old William Ragland and Elizabeth Bounds. According to our family traditions, Elizabeth Bounds was 1/2 Cherokee (or more?) and had an Indian name "Elebestle" or something like that. Elizabeth Bounds was Rachel's mother. Old William Ragland and family came to Searcy County, Arkansas from Tennessee in 1830's. They stayed a short number of years in Missouri before coming down into Searcy County by 1836 or so. Don't know for sure if Elizabeth died in Mo. or Ark. My great great grandfather, Reubin Ragland was a brother to Rachel. Another brother was Jesse Bounds Ragland who remained in the Texas County, Missouri area. Reubin had another brother named Issac who came along to Searcy County with sister Rachel and another sister who I believe was named Elizabeth. Rachel's sister, Elizabeth, I believe married another Dean brother by the name of Martin Dean. This Elizabeth Ragland died after birth of their first child (a girl, I believe) and I really have very little documentation to prove that. Documentation for Rachel Ragland being Wade Hampton Dean's wife is found on their son's death certificate...I don't have it in front of me, but, I believe his name was Bowman Dean.
