Hello,
I am researching the Ragin/Broughton family as well. I descend from one of the Broughton slaves and I am looking into how the slaves were passed along the family.
Specifically I am looking for William Ragin's will. According to what I have been able to find out, John Henry Broughton received a part of his grandfather William Broughton's estate upon his death. He passed my ancestor and his mother to his daughter Epsie. I am interested in knowing if what he received from William Ragin included slave property. Do you have a copy of the will that you can share with me? Or if not, do you know when he died and where the will was filed?
Following this train of thought do you have information on his purchasing slaves that you can share?
I have been researching my Broughton connection for 20 years and have just made this breakthough. I am very excited about this as now there is a possibility I can go further with my search! I deeply appreciate any assistance you and whomever else reading this can provide.
Thanks and happy new year
