LINEAGE OF THE RAGER FAMILY
TODD COUNTY, KENTUCKY
By tradition, the first Rager in Todd County was a John U. Rager. The earliest record of any Ragers is a deed to John U. Rager, November 13, 1820 from T. Donnelly.
The existing family members all trace themselves to either Fog, John U., Burkit or Henderson Rager. Fog's and John's descendants believe that these two men were brothers. Burkit's descendants believe that Burkit and John were brothers. As all three were buried in the same cemetery near Louis Rager Springs [ Fog's son ] it is most probable that they were all three brothers. Only John and Burkit have tombstones and neither carries birth dates. But marriage licenses show that these men's sons were marrying from 1866 [M.V. Rager, Burkit's son] ,1868 [ William M. Rager, John's son] '1868 [Nancy Rager, Fog's daughter] on. This makes it unlikely that these men were buying land forty-eight years earlier in 1820, but rather that this purchase was by their father whom we shall now refer to as John U. Sr..
There were four marriage licenses issued to a John U. Rager in 1843, 1864, 1867, and 1882. The first of these may be assumed to be to John U. Jr. as one of his sons married in 1868. The last is also his as this is the woman with whom he is buried.
A James F. Rager received marriage licenses in 1834,1855, and 1871. This may be Fog Rager as his Christian name in not known.
Marriage records began in 1830. Either Burkit married before then or married outside Todd County as he received no marriage license there.
In this same time period William, Henderson, and Levy Rager also received marriage licenses suggesting that there may have been six brothers, but there is no family tradition to uphold this. No descendants of William or Levy were found.
On many marriage licenses the name John U. appeared as a witness. His name was alternately written John Hue.
By following along the property transfers or looking for a will of John U. Sr. (if such exists) in the Todd County Courthouse, the relationship of these people might be more closely established.

B2 John U. Rager Jr. Married to Ruth Jane Perry in 1843 and Julia E. Dukes in 1882. He had two sons, William M. and Irvin, two daughters, Drucilla and Maura.
B3 Fog Rager. Descendants remember his wife as Sally. (James F. Rager married Sally Leftrich in 1834, Mary Jane Stark in 1855 and Mary Jane Adkin in 1871.) He had eleven children, Dallas, Nancy (Babe), Netter, Jack U., Josh, Louis, Leroy, J. Poke, Starlin Wills, Pressley (Buckin), and Burkit B. (Goodie).
B4 Henderson Rager. He had sons Andrew and Sam.
GENERATION C
Children of Fog (B3) and Sally
C1 J.P. (Poke) Rager. Married Sarah Willis in 1880. Married Elfeader Latham in 1901. He had one child, Eunice, by the second marriage who died young.
C2 Josh Rager. Married Rosie. He had three children, Kesie, Sally and Bernard.
C3 Pressley Rager. Married Millie Blake in 1883. He had eight children. Victor, Ader, Lillie May and Vinney died in infancy. Henry, Houston, Emma and Warner lived into adulthood.
C4 Starlin (Wills) Rager. Married Lizzie Blake in 1884. He had three childre, Cora, Dora and Judge.
C5 Jack U. Rager. Married Louise Wilson Martin in 1897. He had one son, Titus.
C6 Burt B. (Goodie) Rager. Married Nannie Dukes. He had ten children, Rosie, Hugh (Cracker Jack), Wallace, Robert, Colonel, Eiler, Sidney, Cecil and two sons who died young.
C7 Leroy Rager. Married twice. Second marriage was to M.E. Dossett in 1874. He had two children, Sadie and Bud by his first marriage, and four children Effie, Lee, Walter, Marion by his second.
C8 Louis Rager. Married Martha Deason. He had seven children, Eck, Jake, Meg, Bobbie, Georgann, Alice and Jannie.
C9 Netter Rager. She never married.
C10 Nancy (Babe) Rager. Married William M. Rager in 1868. She had sixteen children, Jessie Clark Sr., Gean, Gent, Isaac, Crede, John, Lonnie, Pearl, Netta, Gosswood, Annie, Sarah, Susie, Clare, Ida and Rosa.
C11 Dallas Rager. Married Irvin Rager in 1873. She had five children, Lee, Collie, Joe, Ginny, and Hayes.
