DAVID CASWELL RAGAN/REAGAN (Born: 1826 TN, Died: 1899 TX)
This is to alert any Ragan/Reagan researcher to be very cautious about any Ragan/Reagan lineage chart that had appeared in Ancestry.Com website as absolute truth. And, please check and verify it!
FIRST:
Lineage chart for DAVID CASWELL RAGAN/REAGAN in Ancestry.Com website had showed that his parents were Eli Ragan and Charlotte Ayres.My gut feeling had indicated that it was not right.So, I had to do the research first on David Caswell Ragan/Reagan and his family in Anderson County, Texas.
Based on this writer's Ragan/Reagan genealogical and historical research on DAVID CASWELL RAGAN/REAGAN, he was NOT the son of Eli Ragan and Charlotte Ayres.
The reason for making this statement on the ancestry of DAVID CASWELL RAGAN was 1880 Federal Census of Anderson County, Texas.In 1880 Federal Census of Anderson County, Texas, DAVID CASWELL RAGAN had stated that both his father and mother were actually born in Tennessee.
I had done the research too on Eli Ragan and his wife Charlotte Ayres. The results had found so far on both them from contemporary sources.
ELI RAGAN:This Eli Ragan was actually born circa 1794 in Wilkes County, North Carolina.His parents were Eli Ragan,Sr. and Mary Stewart who came from Frederick County, Maryland.And, this Eli Ragan had descended from Timothy Ragan,Sr. of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
CHARLOTTE AYRES:This Charlotte Ayres was actually born circa 1798 in Knox County, Tennessee.And, this writer did not pursue further on the Ayres family history for her.
S0, Eli Ragan and Charlotte Ayres were NOT the right parents of DAVID CASWELL RAGAN/REAGAN.
SECOND:
For almost fifty (50) years of this writer's Ragan/Reagan genealogical and historical research, I had been totally aware that any Ragan/Reagan researcher will try to claim the KIN relationship to Òmost famousÓ John Henninger Ragan/Reagan of Anderson County, Texas.It was up to this writer to determine whether they had real KIN relationship to John Henninger Ragan/Reagan, son of Timothy Richard Ragan and Elizabeth Lusk; grandson of Richard Ragan and Julia Ann Shultz; and great grandson of Timothy Ragan and Elizabeth Trigg or not.It is for the sake of historical accuracy!
According to this writer's Ragan/Reagan genealogical and historical research, this DAVID CASWELL RAGAN/REAGAN was strongly believed to have been the eldest son of Aaron Ragan and Susannah Ogle.
Aaron Ragan was the son of Richard Ragan and Julia Ann Shultz; and grandson of Timothy Ragan,III - Revolutionary War Soldier and Elizabeth Trigg.And, Susannah Ogle was the daughter of Isaac Ogle and Susannah Bohannon; and granddaughter of William Ogle and Martha Huskey.Both Aaron Ragan and Susannah Ogle were married in Sevier County, Tennessee.
And, both Aaron Ragan and Susannah Ogle were actually born in White Oak Flats (now Gatlinburg) community, Sevier County, Tennessee. The birth place for Aaron Ragan and Susannah Ogle fits actually with 1880 Federal Census of Anderson County, Texas.
And, the birth year for DAVID CASWELL RAGAN/REAGAN fits actually with 1830 Federal Census of Sevier County, Tennessee. He was living with his mother, Susannah Ogle Ragan; his brother John Henry Ragan; his sister Angeline Ragan; and his paternal grandmother, Julia Ann Shultz Ragan in Emert's Cove area for that year.
DAVID CASWELL had been used as the given name in the family of Timothy Ragan,III - Revolutionary War Solider and his wife Elizabeth Trigg for several generations.
