This Mary "Polly" Ragan was the daughter of Jonathan and Anne ?_____? Ragan. "Polly" was her nickname. And she was mentioned in the last will and testament of Jonathan Ragan in Oglethorpe County, Georgia as "Polly Phillips." (Jonathan Ragan's last will and testament was probated in 1813/1814.)
The deed records of Wilkes County, Georgia showed that Jonathan Ragan have sold 50 acres of land to Benjamin Phillips in 1793. And it was not duly recorded til 17 Feb 1795. This deed leds me to strongly believed that she was married circa 1785 in Wilkes County, Georgia to Benjamin Phillips of Wilkes County, Georgia. This Benjamin Phillips was born circa 1760 in North Carolina.
This Benjamin Phillips have served as private in 1778 under Captain Robert Carr, part of Colonel John Dooley's regiment from Wilkes County, Georgia during Revolutionary War. He and Jonathan Ragan were listed on the muster rolls and pay records for that company in 1778.
As it appeared from Jonathan Ragan's last will and testament in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, Mary Ragan Phillips had two daughters, Nancy D. and Cynthia. In that last will and testament, it does not mention Benjamin Phillips at all.
I have been given the note (unverified) that Benjamin and Mary Ragan Phillips died either in Wilkes County, Georgia or Lincoln County, Georgia. [And I am aware that Wilkes County, GA and Lincoln County, GA are next door neighbors.]
Does anyone who has researched Phillips genealogy on this family? Please let me hear from you.
