Raffield Called By Death Funeral Services Will Be Held Today Fred Lee Raffield, 29, of Panama City died in his sleep early Sunday morning in the home of a friend at Bayou George. Surviving him are his wife, Loria and daughter, Anita Joan; his mother Mrs. Eva Raffield of Springfield, a brother Hoyt W. of this city; sisters, Mrs. Sadie Warren and Mrs. Nadine Williams of Panama City; Miss Edieca Raffield and Miss Peggy Mattox of Pensacola, Mrs. Lucille Claytor of San Francisco, and Mrs. Elva Monroe of Lloyd, Fla.; a grandmother, Mrs. Lula Tipton of Springfield, and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held in the Advent Christian Church in Millville at 2 p.m. today with the Rev. H.K. Sheppard assisted by Rev. Coy Raffield, officiating. Southerland Funeral Home 123 Harrison Avenue Panama City, Fla 785-8532 Panama City News Herald October 21, 1973 "Deer Causes Man's Death" A Florida Department of Forestry employee was killed Saturday night when a deer his auto struck as the animal was crossing a highway crashed through the winshield, causing him to lose control of the car. Killed was Micheal Lee Raffield, 21, of the White City Fire Tower, where he lived and worked. According to Florida Highway Patrol Troopers R.A. Harrison, J. M. King, and Corp. J.M. Hardin, the car that Raffield, his wife and son were riding in struck the deer about four miles west of Wewahitchka on SR-22 at 6:55p.m. Saturday. The Troopers said the car left the roadway at the left shoulder, struck a pine tree, and then flipped over, with Raffield left pinned in the wreckage. Raffield's wife and child, whose names were not available from local Highway Patrol officers, were treated and released at Bay Memorial Hospital. Raffield was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The death was the sixth fatality for Gulf County this year. A true native of North Florida he was born and raised on a homestead where Tyndall Field is now. A mariner by birth and vocation, Marion held an Unlimited Master Liscense in the Merchant Marines and was presently employed by Tidewater Marine. Though his heart was on the sea, he spent 25 years in the employment of the City of Panama City and had many major projects to his credit as supervisor. He saw the city marinas completed, he designed and carried out the completion of the 5 point project that raised the level of a large part of town by 14 inches, solving, a severe flooding problem. Many of the streets and underground utilities can be credited to his expertise and perseverance. The employees of the city remember that he campaigned for and obtained insurance and retirement programs for them. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Margret L. Raffield; his son Darrell; and daughter Cheryl; three granddaughters, Stacey Trawick, Suzanne Dykes, and Sara Beth Reynolds; one great grandson, Cody Dykes Trawick, all of Panama City; one brother Roy Raffield and his wife Ann; and tow sisters in law, Betty Raffield and Mrytie Raffield, all of Panama City. Friends and associates know Marion to have been of sterling character and honesty and all who knew him loved and admired him. He will be missed. Raffield of Panama City; life long friend, Glenda Floyd Byrd of Perry; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Raffield was a Florida native, a life long mariner, a great husband and wonderful father. Winton Earl Raffield was born July 16, 1934 and died on Tuesday, August 18, 1998. he moved to Bay County in 1956 from the Port St Joe area, worked as a tug boat captain, in marine construction for over 20 years, and was Protestant by faith. He is survived by his wife Lora Nell Raffield, his loving wife of 43 years; his children; sons Vincent Raffield and his wife Linda, Levy Raffield and his wife Donna, Terry Raffield, Larry Raffield, Chuck Raffield and his wife Nellie; daughters, Michele Raffield and Sheila Clevenger and her husband Jim; daughter in law Barbara Raffield; 12 grandchildren; and one great grandchild, all of Panama City, Fla. He also leaves behind brothers and one sister, Oscar Raffield of Port St Joe Beach, Fla., Arthur Raffield of Panama City, Fla., Douglas McArthur Raffield of Wewahitchka, Fla., Janice Richards, Edward Raffield, and Rodney Raffield, all of Apalachicola, Fla; a host of nieces and nephews, friends and relatives, far too many to name as he touched the hearts of so many. Mr. Raffield was preceded in death by his son, Micheal Anthony Raffield and granddaughter Lora Elaine Raffield.
