I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800.
Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%.
Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.
Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).
Note - the earliest B and M rcds in Termonmaguirk start sometime in 1834 - nothing earlier. Only 9 of 22 Tyrone RC parishes have rcds before 1831.
The earliest M rcd for an Ellen Rafferty in Termonmaguirk, Co. Tyrone is in 1845.
The earliest M rcd for a Francis Rafferty ditto, is in 1843. The earliest in all Co. Tyrone is 1831.
For Peter Rafferty B 1834 (exact), Termonmaguirk, Co. Tyrone with a father forenamed Francis, I found 0 rcds.
For Pat(rick) Rafferty B 1836 ditto, I found 1 rcd.
For Edward Rafferty B 1838 ditto, ditto.
For Francis Rafferty B 1841 ditto, ditto.
For Cat(herine) Rafferty B 1843 ditto, ditto.
For James Rafferty B 1845 ditto, I found 1 rcd in 1842.
For Terrence Rafferty B 1847 ditto, I found 1 rcd.
For Michael Rafferty B 1854 ditto, ditto.
For Charles Rafferty B 1855 ditto, I found 0 rcds within a relevant range of years.
For Charles Rafferty M 1880 +/- 2 yrs, Termonmaguirk, Co. Tyrone, I found 2 rcds in 1882. A view of the M rcds should give you his bride's name.
For Mich(ael) Rafferty M 1879 +/- 4 yrs, ditto, I found 3 M rcds: 1877 civil, 1877 church, and 1884 civil.
For Ter(ence) Rafferty M 1872 ditto, I found 2 rcds: 1868 and 1870.
For James Rafferty M 1870 ditto, I found 8 rcds: 1866, 2-1872, 1873, and 4-1874.
For Cat(herine) Rafferty M 1864 +/- 4 yrs, I found 1864, 1867, 2-1868.
For Francis Rafferty M 1866 ditto, I found 5 rcds: 1864, 1867, and 3-1868.
For Edward Rafferty M 1863 ditto, I found 1 rcd in 1863
For Patrick Rafferty M 1861 ditto, I found 6 rcds: 1859, 1862, and 4-1864.
For Peter Rafferty M 1859 ditto, I found 2 rcds: 1855 and 1862.
Many of the above rcds are undoubtedly for your ancestors. This may fill in some holes in your information. A view of the detailed rcds SHOULD reveal info with which you can validate/invalidate a rcd. You will need an exact DOB, parent(s) name(s), and/or placename(s) to do this.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.
