He died 13 years ago and it occurs to me I know nothing about him. All I know is that the name is Irish Catholic, like my grandma.
John Rafferty. Born in Sunderland 1919. Went on the Jarrow March. Moved to Maltby, Yorkshire at some point. Married Maisie (proper name Mary) McKey and had two sons - John and Brian. Died 1992 of emphysymia, a legacy of working Maltby Colliery until retirement.
Sketchy information, i know, but worth a try. Who was my grandad? Apart from being a nice person who I wish I'd listened to more.
