Hello, Marcia,
This may not be related, but I am trying to find out where my great-grandfather, Johann Radecki, was born. He sailed with his parents, Paul and Victoria, and several siblings on a ship to Australia - the SS Forfarshire, in 1882. He had a sister Valentina. My mother (a Radecki) thought they came from Poznan, but his naturalization certificate stated Lodz. It is interesting that they went to Australia, a long way from Poland, when probably many migrants were going at that time to the USA. This may not be anything - but the information on Radecki seems fairly limited. If you have anything that connects these families I would be grateful. I don't know any of the names of Paul's siblings if he had any. I know from the ship's log (which notes "Germany" as country of origin, although Johann spoke Polish until his death - I actually knew him as a young child) that the family could all read and write. I think they may have left under difficult circumstances. Johann became a prominent stained-glass window artist in Sydney, and worked until he was very old.
Warm regards,
Pauline Rose, Brisbane Australia.
