Dear Yvette,
Olivier Racine who became Levi Root was born on 4 September 1849 at Dunham, Missisquoi County and was baptised on 7 October 1849 at Notre-Dame-de-Stanbridge, Missisquoi County. He was the son of Antoine Racine (son of Jacques Racine and Genevieve Cote) and Josephte (Josephine) Chretien (daughter of Albert Chretien and Genevieve Piette) who were married on 25 September 1848 at Notre-Dame-de-Stanbridge, Missisquoi County.Olivier (Levi) was the oldest of their eight children.
There is a nice story about this family on http://www.genealogie.org/famille/racine/amerique_extraits_de_lenracine.htmhttp://www.genealogie.org/famille/racine/amerique_extraits_de_lenracine.htm.
Etienne Racine was the original Racine in Quebec. He had four sons:Noel, Francois, Pierre, and Etienne, Jr.Antoine Racine descends from Francois.
I have been doing French-Canadian genealogy for 35 years.My daughter-in-law's great-great-great-grandfather
was also an Olivier Racine who became Oliver Root in New York state.I have his 1859 marriage record in New York state and his 1892 death record in New York state but neither of these records gives his parents' names.I have not been able to find his birth and baptismal record.According to U.S. federal census records, he was born between 1825 and 1831.
Good luck in your searching!
