Thanks, we had that census also just didn't know how or if it connected to our relatives. Have since discovered Celestin Racine is Joseph Root and is my husband's great grandfather, changed name entirely when moved to US. It appears that Josephine changed her name to Root for awhile but in 1920 census she's listed as Racine again and listed as a widow. We can't find any mention of Celestin/Joseph after the 1900 census in CT.
