Race House Being Nominated for National Register of Historic Landmarks
Hello Race Family Members:
I'm posting this message, as I'm seeking your help/assistance in providing me with information about Stephen A. Race and his brother Charles Race, both of which lived in Chicago/Irving Park in the 1870s.
I live in Stephen A. Race's house, which you may or may not know is one of 71 historic landmark houses in the city of Chicago.Over the past 18 months, we have been restoring the home - and are preparing to have it nominated to the United State National Register of Historic Landmarks. This home is extremely historic and is definitely a 'looker'.It's a beautiful Italianate home that was built by Stephen A. Race in 1873-1874.
As part of this process, I'd like to have more information on Stephen A. Race, his family - and in particular (and importantly) copies of his family photographs and any photographs of the house.
I, of course, would be pleased to correspond and share information on this historic house and the town that Stephen and his brother Charles founded (it was called Irving Park - now it's part of Chicago).
Best regards,
Mark Jones
