Did you know that in addition to the Castle of Raby in northern England, there was a Destroyer Escort [DE-698] named the USS RABY that served in WWII and earned three battle stars in the Pacific. The USS RABY was named after Admiral James Joseph Raby of the US Navy. There are many Raby families in the US, England and Australia.
I used to hate the first day of school because the teachers never could pronounce the name right and there were always a bunch of giggles. I learned to say "RABY, just like dogbite!" and when called Rabies, I would say that there is only one Raby but I did bite. Hold your head up high and dare them to put you down. It is a proud Viking name and full of fighters in every war thourgh out history. Ed Raby in Alaska
