First, let me introduce everyone. Michele Cooper and Karen Tagert are
sisters. Karon Bosze is related to them on the Johnson side, but not the
Rabon line. Willis is a cousin to all three. Richard Edde is a
descendant of Ezekiel Green Rabon, brother of Elbert Rabon, who married
Mary Coxwell. I'm a cousin through the Coxwells to Michele, Karen T and
Willis.

Surprise, surprise. Rufus didn't die in 1864!! Going on the lead in
Richard's online family tree that Sarah Ford, wife of Rufus, applied for
a CSA widow's pension in Clopton, Dale Co. AL, I searched through the
Clopton and Newton sections (where they lived in 1860) of the 1880
census for Dale Co. Voila!!

Beat 10 clopton, Dale Co., Alabama, ED 65, p. 447 (printed page #668), 2
July; B M Mathews, enumerator. Family #118

Raborn, Sarah head W F 47 wd keeping house SC SC SC
Raborn, Elbert son W M 22 s farmer GA NC SC
Raborn, Jane dau W F 19 s at school AL NC SC
Raborn, Ivebeles dau W F 14 s at school AL NC SC
Raborn, Rufus M son W M 11 s at school AL NC SC

[as there were no marks in the can't read or write boxes, I presume they
could]

I could not find them in the 1870 census. The writing was faint on some
pages, but I did look through all of Newton and Clopton beats.

Could not find Sarah, Rufus M, or Elbert in the 1900 soundex, using both
R150 (Rabon or Rabun, Raybon) or R165 (Rayburn, Rayborn). Since Houston
co. wasn't formed until 1903, I'll have to figure out where Ashford was
in the 1900 census, then go line by line.

Does anyone have a copy of Sarah's widow's pension application? That
should have date/place of death for Rafus, where/when they were married,
and lots of other info. I think you can get this at the state library
in Montgomery. I've never ordered one for Alabama, but got one for a
pension application in Texas-about 20 pages worth of material.

Wondering if possibly Sarah and the three kids above went to
Arkansas/Oklahoma with Ezekiel G and family?

Another thing, I saw a posting for a descendant of Evelyn Missouri
Rabon, sister to Elbert and Ezekiel, but the poster (as descendant)
didn't give any other info, such as name of spouse, where they lived,
etc. Through another tree at Rootsweb, Evelyn md. W J Trawick and her
twin, Ellen, md. Bud Anderson.

Richard has posted his Rabon trees to ancestry.com and rootsweb.com.
The latter is the more recent.

Lynda
