Charles (Carl) Emil Raab
My grandfather came to the United States somewhere near the beginning of this century. He told his children he was an orphan but I recently found a funeral notice mailed to him from Germany in October of 1934 so he had some family there and they knew where he was in the U.S.
The funeral notice told of a Mr. Wilhelm Michel who died at the age of 86.The mourning survivors listed included: Mrs. Katharina Michel, nee Raab; Emil Wilhelm Michel; Julie Michel nee Kah and grandchild Kathe.
My grandfather did say he came form the town of Diez, on the river Lahn, and that his father was a Prussian office.
I wrote to the churches of Diez on June 8 of 1998, as well as the community administration of Diez but received no reply from any of the three.I do not speak or write German so perhaps the letters were discarded because they were in English.
Where should I go from here?Michael W. Raab
