Regarding the origins of the Quisenberry family and their name:
I have done a little poking around and have found a few things that may interest any researchers in the field of Quisenberry genealogy ~ the early epoch. The name seems to have originated in Germany, or the Holy Roman Empire, as Deutchland was once called. This is attested by many researchers on the internet and by books in English. But what about in the German language? The possibilities intrigued me. I have forgotten most of what I learned of the language, so I struggle myself with the material I have collected. The google.com search-engine is primarily German oriented. Thus when I entered a search for Von Questenburg or Von Questenberg I came up with an interesting couple of web pages. The first tells the description and history of the region known as Questenberg with some photos of the ruins of the castle. It is in German and may be found at http://www.karstwanderweg.de/que_burg.htm and a second set of photos are found at http://www.karstwanderwed.de/kws018.htm and further information may be found at http://www.das-mittelalter.de/burgenfotos28.htm all of these are worth a visit even if you cant translate the German. From what I have been able to gather, the first to bear a title of the land was a Fredericus De Questenberg, a knight or page in the service of Friedrich Von Beichlingen who granted that title to him. It appears to me that Friedrich Von Beichlingen had a son named Heinrich who in succession to his father became the count of Beichlingen. I have read that Tielmann Von Questenberg was the first to bear the surname Questenberg in our lineage, and he was the son of a count Heinrich. Could it be that Heinrich Von Beichlingen usurped the title Von Questenberg and gave it to his son Tielmann, or perhaps Heinrich married Fredericus De Questenberg's daughter and gave their son his maternal inheritance? Perhaps I am way out in left field, but it would be interesting if someone with more information than I could either shoot my theory down or support it, no offence would be taken. My mother is a Quisenberry and I think I have all the lineage between her and Tielmann. Tielmann's wife Sybella Von Suchteln (as some spell it) is a total dead end to me. Does anyone know more about her? Thanks in advance.
