Gerald,
I wish I could help you on the St. John's Quirks. My Newfoundland Quirks came from Riverhead, Harbour Grace, Conception Bay. Any connections with this family? I have also a military document (The Royal Newfoundland Regiment) for Peter Quirk of Mobile, Southern Shore...close to St. John's. Peter's father was Daniel, also of Mobile. I, in my search, could only find a few branches of the Quirk name in Newfoundland... Riverhead, the Southern Shore, St. Lawrence. Perhaps you can add some others or give a brief outline on your Quirk family?
Bill
