Hello!

I have some information on Fletcher and Hattie Quinton. I also am researching this line and would appreciate any info you have. --Linda

Descendants of Edison Baxter Quinton

Generation No. 1

1. EDISON BAXTER1 QUINTON was born 30 Sep 1838, and died 21 Aug 1899. He married SARAH ELIZABETH HUDSON. She was born Abt. 1844, and died Dec 1928.

Notes for EDISON BAXTER QUINTON:
Tombstone reads:

This is a joint stone. The other side lists his wife.

There is also a Confederate memorial stone that reads:

Edison is listed in the 1850 Chester Co., SC census:
85/1326 Quinton, Margaret 87, Mary 50, Easter 46, Margaret 31, Catherine 14, Edison B. 11

( I am assuming that Catherine is Edison's sister.)

Edison is listed again in the 1860 Chester Co., SC census:
Quinton, Ellison 21, $34, farm laborer, Margaret 48

(I am assuming that this Margaret is his mother.)

Edison is listed in the 1870 Census, Chester Co. SC:

_____________

E. B. Quinton Confederate Records Summary obtained from the South Carolina Archives in Columbia, SC by Linda Hull.:

Records indicate Private E. Baxter Quinton of Co. F, 23 SC Infantry, enlisted October 17, 1861 in Chester, SC, under Capt. John J. McLure's Company (Hatch's Reg't Coast Rangers). His general index card lists him as Ellison B. Quinton.

Muster Records for November and December of 1861 do not indicate his absence or his presence. They simply state "not stated". There are no records for 1862, however on the records for January and February of 1863, it indicates he was last paid August 31, 1862. He was present for duty during January, February, September, and October (Remarks: on extra duty). He was again present in November and December of 1863, January, February, March 1-June 30, 1864, July 1 - October 31, 1864, November, and December of 1864.

He received $22 for payments on Descriptive Lists for January 1 - February 29, 1864. There are two documents that he signed in conjunction with this transaction that are almost illegible.

Hospital Records indicate that E. B. Quinton was attached to the General Hospital in Lauderdale Springs, Mississippi on July 20, 1863 until July 31, 1863, returned to duty August 11th. This particular record indicates he enlisted at Charleston, SC on October 20, 1862. He was employed as a nurse, and the record indicates he was never paid for this service. He is listed on a register for the Medical Director's Office at Richmond, Virginia. This record indicates he returned to duty on November 3, 1862. On August 6, 1864, he was admitted to the Episcopal Church Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia with "Febric Remillens" (Looks like).

Records show that he was a POW belonging to the Army of Northern Virginia surrendered by General Robert E. Lee, paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia on April 9, 1865.

Notes for FLETCHER HOLMES QUINTON:
Fletcher's relationship to E. B. Quinton is supposition based on the fact that he is buried with the other Quintons. He is not listed on the 1880 census. There is a Frasier listed with the family of William Quinton and his wife Sarahann. The question arises: is the a mispelling of Fletcher?
