Gypsy / travelling hawker QUINTONs in the UK

Hi all,

I have a line of QUINTON ancestors who lived in the UK in the 1800s and were travelling hawkers / gypsies (so they were born all over the place).

Hezekiah QUINTON was born c1826 at Bobbers Mill in Nottinghamshire. He married Hannah.

Their son Gehazi QUINTON was born in 1849, in Doncaster, Yorkshire. He married Elizabeth HOROBIN in 1868 in Clowne, Derbyshire.

In 1871 Hezekiah and Hannah were living in a caravan at Pleasley, Nottinghamshire. Gehazi and Elizabeth were living in Chesterfield.

Gehazi and Elizabeth's children were:

William (b. c1871 in Clowne, DBY)
Hannah (b. c8173 in Clowne, DBY)
Thomas (b. c1877 in Clowne, DBY)
Caroline (b. c1878 in Tideswell, DBY)
Hezekiah (b. c1885 in Clowne, DBY)
Gehazi (b. c1885 in Newtown, Montgomery, Wales)
Mary (b. c1888 in Welshpool, Wales).

Gehazi and Elizabeth travel around quite a bit....in 1891 they're living in a caravan in an established gypsy camp in Battersea, London, and by the 1901 census they and three of their sons are running various fairground rides and attractions, just outside Chesterfield.

In 1881 Elizabeth is in Shrewsbury Jail (I am not sure why yet!) whilst Gehazi is living with the children in Parwich, Derbyshire.

Please do get in touch if you are interested in any of the above! :)

Cheers,
Toni Barker
