Francisco QUINTANA, Santa Fe, 1910
I have been researching the genealogy of my godfather who left Santa Fe when he was 16 to join the Army and now lives in Alabama. Uncle Ray’s father was Francisco QUINTANA, b 4 Oct 1878, d Mar 1968, Santa Fe. Uncle Ray does not know where his father was born but believes that it was elsewhere in New Mexico, some distance away from Santa Fe. His father was part Apache. Francisco’s brother & mother also lived in Santa Fe. Uncle Ray does not recall his uncle’s name but thinks that his grandmother’s name was Juana.
Uncle Ray’s mother was Francisca GARCIA (b Oct 1903, Santa Fe), the daughter of Estanislado & Donaciana BARRANCA GARCIA. Francisco QUINTANA & Francisca GARCIA were probably married about 1922.
Uncle Ray’s siblings, all now deceased, were Concepcion “Connie” GARCIA, Donaciana “Donna” GARCIA, Juanita “Jennie” QUINTANA, Francisco Thomas “Tom” QUINTANA, Richard QUINTANA, Peter QUINTANA, Juan QUINTANA, & Maria QUINTANA.
Francisco’s World War I draft card showed his birth date as 4 Oct 1877, rather than 1878. Another Francisco QUINTANA, with the exact birth date, 4 Oct 1877, registered for the draft the same day in Deming, Luna Co, NM. They appear to be two different people. Both signed the card with an “X,” so a signature comparison is not possible. The Francisco in Deming was short & slender, while the Francisco in Santa Fe was tall & of medium build. The nearest relative for the Francisco in Deming was Maria MUNOZ, who I was unable to locate in the census. Francisco in Santa Fe listed his first wife as his nearest relative: Luisita Vigil de Quintana, 426 Palace Ave.
Luisita VIGIL had been previously married to Refugio SANDOVAL & had several children by him. Luisita was married to Francisco QUINTANA by 1910:

Uncle Ray’s parents separated when he was young, & he knows very little about his father. I ordered a transcription of Francisco QUINTANA’s social security application, but it gave very little information—not even a birth place.
Does anyone have information on this QUINTANA family? I know that there were other QUINTANAs in Santa Fe, but Uncle Ray said the others—besides his uncle & grandmother—were not related to his father.
Thanks.
