Barbara,
Only recently started working on Mary Ann Quillen born 1750's to 1760's and married Richard Hazelwood. She died after 1830, probably in Jefferson Co., TN.. Richard was probably born before 1745 and died 1790 in Surry, NC. He is found in 1760's in Dobbs Co., NC and by 1784 was in Surry Co., NC. (associated with Ratliff Boon family in both places). There is a suggestion of a connection Between Mary Ann and the Daniel and John Quillen found in old Dobbs, Lenoir, and Jones records. Judging from the apparent ages deduced by the activities (ie. militia and property ownership) the Daniel and John Quillen in Dobbs and Jones counties are sons of an elder Daniel Quillen and his wife Eleanor. There were two daughters mentioned in Daniel's Jones Co., NC. will abstract: Mary ( possibly Mary Ann who married Richard Hazelwood) and Rachel; and a third daughter implied, who married Kenley. The elder Daniel Quillen is probably the same who received a land grant in Craven in 1745 and who was probably born before 1724. Given the names and the latter associations in Surry Co.,NC, Grayson Co., Va and Jefferson Co., TN this group from the Craven / Dobbs / Jones area of NC certainly appears to be strongly connected to the descendents of Teague Quillen of Accomack, Va and Somersett, Md.. Unfortunately, there is a generation missing in all the material so far found. Would appreciate any information you may have on this family group.
Charles
