I have an 1880 United States Federal Census for Bourbon County, Kansas, listing Mary Quigley, age 40, born about 1840; Martin Quigley, age 17, born about 1863, James Quigley, age 12 born about 1868 (all of the above were born in Ireland; Kate Quigley, age 6, born about 1874, and Edward Quigley, age 4, born about 1876 (both of these children were listed as being born in Kansas). Mary indicates she is a widow in 1880; however, two children were born of this marriage after their arrival from Ireland, so either her husband accompanied she and the children on the voyage, or met them upon their arrival. However, I have not been able to determine the name of her husband.
On the 1900 Federal Census for Montana, Martin R. Quigley indicates that he immigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1873. Martin R. Quigley moves to Beaverhead, Montana, and apparently stayed there until his death, sometime after 1920.
On the 1910 Federal Census for Montana, Martin indicates that he is married to Marguerite, age 37, born about 1873 in Kansas; and has two children, Ralph, age 8, born about 1902 and Catherine, age 5, born about 1905 (both children being listed as being born in Montana).
On the 1920 Federal Census for Montana, Martin indicates that the only residents in the household are his wife Margaret and daughter, Josephine, who is no age 15 years. On the 1910 Federal Census it is indicated that her name is Catherine but on the 1920 Federal Census, it indicates that her name is Josephine. Ralph Quigley is no where to be found on any census report. He may have died during the flu epidemic of 1918.
I find no information on James Quigley, born about 1868, Kate Quigley, born about 1874 or Edward Quigley, born about 1876, after the 1880 Federal Census.
I am very interested in this family and any information that anyone may provide to direct me in on the path of uncovering this elusive family would be appreciated.
