Hello, I've been doing some web searching on my family and stumbled upon this site. I'm not sure if any of this information would be of interest or use to anyone, but I thought I'd share it just in case. My grandfather is James William McDermott, born in Philadelphia. His father (my great grandfather) Francis Mary McDermott, was one of eleven children born to James and Sara McDermott. While living in Philadelphia, James was manager of the Merchant's Hotel at 4th and Arch streets (the hotel burned down in the 1960's). At any rate, Sara's maiden name was Quigg. She and her parents lived in Cape May, or at least summered there. That's where James McDermott and she met, he was working at a hotel in Cape May at the time. The Quigg farmhouse is now the Washington Inn, I believe, and one of the photos in the menu is of Sara and some of her children, sitting on the front porch. (Sara's in a dark dress on the right.) None of the children are my great grandfather, though, (he hadn't been born yet) just great aunts and uncles. (Also, if you are interested in the Cape May Quigg's, Sara's mother was a Cullen of the Crisfield, Maryland Cullens.) I've got dates and more specifics if anyone is interested.
