I suspect Manis and Nancy emmigrated to NY from Ireland prior of 1851 and located in Dutchess Co.
where his first child was born. He moved to Ulster Co. where
his next three children were born, and finally to
Constantia where he purchased a farm.
According to both the 1865 and 1875 NYS census, both Manus
and Nancy were illiterate. In 1865 he is listed as an alien day
laborer and did not own any land. The 1875 census indicates
that he was not an alien, and was a land owner and a farmer.
Manis and Nancy had 10 children:
Margaret ABT 1851
Mary 4 Juin 1854
Catering Jane 21 Mar 1856
Daniel ABT 1857
Arthur ABT 1860
Edward ABT 1861
Nancy ABT 1865
Ellen ABT 1867
Martha ABT 1869
Bertha ABT 1872
Any information about where he might have originated in Ireland would be greatly appreciated.
