I think that it is time to speak for my great-grandmother Sarah Ellen Quick, daughter of Edwin Quick and Abigail Ball, born in 1842. She married my great-grandfather Henry Gates Wildman in 1860. Sarah's cause and date of death have been clouded; the true date is July 3, 1886, the day that Henry murdered her. It's not a story of affairs or sudden rage, but instead one more of greed to buy cattle or land in opposition to using Sarah's inheritance for children's college educations. After the murder, Henry botched his suicide and surprisingly lived against the odds. He died in the still-dark hours of October 14, 1886, at the hands of a lynching mob.
The story and photos came to me through my family; I'm one grandchild of then-11-year-old Walter. However, newspaper articles from papers such as the Champaign Herald (IL), Ogden Standard Examiner (UT), and The New York Times can now even freely be found online to verify this information. Nearby smaller Illinois towns are Atwood, Bement, Monticello, and Ivesdale.
Can anyone share more details about the lives of Sarah, Henry, and Walter with me? The usual lineage information can be researched elsewhere please. Thanks.
