I remember school days with my Quesenberry cousins and hearing every mangled attempt at their name known to man. This family originated in Questenburg, Germany. Many of them were sailors and merchants in the Hanseatic League, a sailors guild. A local branch of this company was established in England, circa 1500's. Some family members moved to England, where their name was rendered as Questenbury, then Questenberry and finally Quesenberry. Correct pronunciation is: kwess-in-berry, in spite of all the misspellings and botched pronunciations to the contrary. One must remember that in U. S. colonial days, most citizens could not read or write and most clerks, etc. couldn't spell their own names, much less others. This caused all the alternate spellings. Since many people tried to conform their speech to these poor spellings, all those variations arose.
