My great grandmother was Effie and Don's cousin.
Her name was Alice Mary Laundon. Her mother was Cora Quelos.
Cora (1850-1941) was the sister of Effie and Don's father.
His name was Manly Quelos (1848-1934). Manly was married to Charlotte Leece (this was Effie and Don's mother)She died November 17,1925.
To make it easier, I'll make a list:

Francois Quelos (born 22 July 1820 in France)
- married in Cleveland Ohio March 25,1847 to Cornelia Putnam from Ontario Canada.
- He was a ship carpenter, then later had 2 shipbuilding in Cleveland named Lafrinnier and Quelos, and one in Lorain county at the Black River named Quelos and Peck.
-Buried in Monroe street cemetery with wife Sec.H lot 23 southline grave 2 and 3 respectively in Cleveland.

Children of Francois and Cornelia:
- Manly 1848- Dec. 22, 1934 Wife> Charlotte Leece
- Cora 1850- 1941 husband> John Laundon
- John Pierre 1853-? wife> Kit
-William Harrison 1855-1857
-Thomas Dixon 1858-1906 wife> Katherine Miltner

Children of Manly Quelos and Charlotte Leece:
- Don P. Quelos 1873 or 1874- Dec.1949
( I have seen two obituaries about him, but neither mentions a wife.)

- Effie May Quelos

Children of Don P. Quelos:(from my limited information)
- Ralph B. Quelos
- Patricia Quelos

Children of Effie May Quelos:
- Dudley Rice (who married Dorothy Leece. They were second cousins. They lived in Sewickley, Pa. and had no children)
- Marion Quelos Brown
- Marjorie Quelos Baker

I have a copy of a 1949 obituary from the Cleveland Plain Dealer about Don P. Quelos. It states that he is a "descendant of two pioneer families". It says he died at Huron Rd. Hospital. It states his parents and says, "both parents were of stock which dated back to the early years of Cleveland." It also says, "His father was a proofreader for the Plain Dealer".
He worked as a lithographer in Cleveland at the Morgan Lithograph company until the turn of the century. Then he lived in Massilon, Ohio and worked for 33 years as a lithographer at the Cleveland-Massillon-Akron Lithograph co. He retired in 1944. " Surviving are his son, Ralph B. Quelos of Avon Lake, Ohio general sales manager for the chemical and pigments division of Glidden Co; one grandchild and a sister,Mrs. W.E. Rice." Then it states the services and that he will be buried at Riverside cemetery in Cleveland. I also know from a painting that I saw, That Don P. was quite a good artist!
I know this is alot of info, but I hope it is helpful.
To get more info easily, go to This is the Cleveland Public Library website. Choose necrology files or obituary files, then type in Quelos, and you will get some info.
I should have asked in the first place....Are you related to Quelos?
