My great grandmother was a Queil. The surname spelling does not make any difference because as illiterate Irish the spelling was often determined by census enumerators.(This is not a slur on the Irish.) Some of my Queal or Quail relatives settled in Cortland and Thompkins. If you look in Otsego and Schoharie Counties in the early 19th centuries you will find many of these people in Worcester and some in Summit, New York.
