My husband's family are also QUAST.He has been told that his family was from Bessarabia too. They, Christian EDMUND QUAST and his wife Magdalena QUAST nee BRONSCH came to Canada in 1910 on the "Bremen" with two of their children, one child, Ferdinand died at 4 1/2 months on board.
They lived in Calgary when they first came to Canada. He also had a cousin, Christian QUAST that was a few years older that came at the same time on the same ship.I have a copy of the Passenger list. The family spelling looks like Onast on the passenger list, but it is actually QUAST.Some records have the spelling as ONAST, because of this passenger list.
Does anyone have any records of this Christian QUAST,born in Bessarabia, in 1883 and his wife Magdalene/Magdalena in 1886 in Alexanderfeld. This is the info that we have found. They are both buried in the Hanna Cemetery in plots beside each other, Christian's Plot 44.03.08 and Magdalena 44.3.07,Christian died in Calgary Alberta,1966 and Magdalena died in Edmonton Alberta, 1963.
My husband's birthfather was William Edmund Quast who died in Vancouver in 1986.
Thanks in Advance,
Judy Anderson
