It seems there may be several versions of Rev. Osgood's will. We're going by an extract from Ben Kincaid's papers, and by a longer version from Abstracts of Colonial Wills of the State of Georgia 1733-1777, Atlanta Town Committee, DAR, 1962. Where did you find the copy you're using? The parents for Sarah, Elizabeth, and Elijah Quarterman were the same as for John and William: John Quarterman Jr. and Sarah Osgood. Various sources for this, for instance a deed of land from John Quarterman to his son Elijah, in addition to the usual Midway birth records, and Rev. Osgood's will. I would guess Rev. Osgood made special provision for John and William because they were the youngest male children of his daughter Sarah. About them Rev. Osgood's will says: "Grandchildren: John and William Quarterman, 20 pounds Sterling a year toward their education, if the exors of the will of John Quarterman see fit. Dau: Sarah Way, one-third of my remaining estate for her life-time, after her death to her children. Grandchildren (children of said dau.): Sarah, Elizabeth, John, William and Elijah Quarterman, one-third of my remaining estate." Yes, Midway records say Robert Quarterman married Mary Way 10 June 1767, and that she died 2 Nov 1770, but they don't say that she was Mary Osgood Way, nor who her parents were. We have this Mary Way as daughter of Edward Way and Ann Elliott. However, neither of their wills name her or Robert or any Quarterman grandchildren. Ann Elliott made her will long after Mary was dead, Robert had remarried, and both Robert and his new wife were dead, so it's not surprising she didn't mention them. (Nor do what wills we have of their parents mention either of them as grandchildren, but that's understandable, because all the grandparents whose wills we have died before she was born). Edward Way, on the other hand, made his will while Mary should have been 15, and he named most of his other children, so it's mysterious that he didn't name her. So the available documents could fit with Mary either being Mary Osgood, or being a daughter of Edward Way. As for Mary Way, daughter of Joseph P. Way and Mary Osgood, we have her death date as 20 May 1785, according to McCutchen-Anderson and Related Families, by Allie Anderson McCutchen McIntosh, 1971-1974. Meanwhile, she had married Joseph W. Anderson in c. 1782. Don Raney found this information. It would be best to move this discussion to http://www.quarterman.org/booklist.html where there are others who are more familiar with the Way family. -jsq Notify Administrator about this message?
