Two Sources for Liberty County, GA
Hi all,
For those of you searching for Quartermans in Liberty County, Ga (including MidwayChurch and community) note the following two sources:
"History and Published Records of the Midway Congregational Church:Liberty County, Georgia" by James Stacy, The Reprint Company Publishers; Spartanburg, SC; 1987. Covers thehistory of the Church, with notes on the Dorchester, Mass. and Dorchester, SC periods as well. Includes the collected birth, baptism, marriage, and death records of the churchs members from 1753 to 1858. Lots of Quartermans, Bakers, Winns, Ways, Varadoes, many more!
"Sweet Land of Liberty: A History of Liberty County, Georgia" by Robert L. Groover; W. H. Wolfe Associates, Publishers; Roswell, Ga; 1987. A look at the secular history of Liberty County, from the earlies settlers to 1987. Lots of pictures. A good third of the book is appedices, good information. A section on prominant families history, including Quarterman. Both books are currently in edition. I bought mine at the Midway Church Museum, located next to the old church in Midway. Both the Church and the old Graveyard are open to visitors, as is the Museum, which contains relics of the old Midway community and prominent citizens. Oh, and in the back of the Museum building is a geneology research room which doubles as the museum office. Staff is very helpful.
Best regards,
