Just a bit of info about the Quaker faith. The 'Friends' did not shun those who left the faith....that was a practice of the Amish, but not the Quakers. Being disowned was not something 'done' by family members - when a Friend married someone not a Quaker, served in the war, or other behaviors that were against the tenants of the faith, their meeting disowned them....this meant that they were no longer considered Quakers. Many disowned Quakers continued to attend meeting and had perfectly normal relations with family and friends - they were just no longer Quakers. I had one ancestor who was disowned by his meeting for what they believed were unfair business practices. He didn't agree, and was not contrite, but continued to attend the same meeting along with his wife and children....
Without more info from you, a single name with no dates an no actual geographic places, it's pretty impossible to find Wm. A wife's name would help, and also where in Indiana he lived...ditto Ca....he should be included in Federal census. If you know his date of death, and place, a death certificate should have the names of his parents and their places of birth.....ditto, a newspaper obit.
