I can just tell you that, as a researcher, I know that none of us can 'assume' that all those with the same surname are related. My own maiden name, Newlin, is an unusual one, and I and many others have done a great deal of research on the Newlins that came to PA with Penn. However, there are other Newlins...several in VA....that no one has been able to tie to the Newlins of PA. Research...primary documentation... that's what it's all about, and the only thing that will prove who is related to whom. It's what we do, when we research...prove family ties, with the emphasis on prove.
