Civil War surgeon John Pemberton Zane. His daughter Edith married Dr. Richard A. Pyles. They lived in Washington D.C. Edith Zane Pyles bore son A. Zane Pyles, and daughter Helen. A. Zane Pyles went to Eastern High School, Wa DC, educated at HArvard University, 1915. April 1918 was admitted to the Philadelphia Bar to practice law. Summer 1918 went to France to serve in WWI. Was intelligence officer, then was relived as intelligence officer by Robert E. Lee, grandson of the General. A. Zane Pyles was killed when sent to the front lines. his father Richard died around 1929. I suspect the family was wiped out by the crash of 1929. Edith, at her rapidly advancing age, applied for a passport to go to England to work as a housekeeper. Note: I collect war letters. I have A. Zane Pyles WWI letters, photos, and a handwritten obituary written by his family after he was killed on the front. The antique store had Richard pyles death certificate and the mother's 1929 passport, but those two documents I dont have. I remember seeing them as an afterthought after buying the letters. But I do have a Teddy roosevelt letter that the ex-president sent to Zane Pyles.
