It is interesting that the oldest two sons of Samuel Pilot, James Manuel Pilot/Pylate and William Steven Pilot/Pylate both named their first sons John Samuel.
James Manuel's oldest son, John Samuel b. abt 1880, d. abt 1882 (this from Bennie Faye Pylate Hearn).
William Steven's oldest son, John Samuel b. 12/11/1881 and died 8/14/1973.
I wrote oldest two sons and I meant that lived to maturity. I still feel that the Thomas Pilot, age 1 year, that died in Barbour Co., AL in 1850 was probably Samuel and Margaret's first or second child.
