I live in Jonesboro Ar and Hattie Ophelia Wyatt Caraway is really an important person here - first female U S senator and had a U S stamp commissioned in her honor in 2001. My ancestors are from Bakerville, Humphreys Co TN. When I read that she was born 2 years after my grandfather there in Bakerville, I started to do some research on her. To my surprise some of her siblings moved to my home town, Newbern TN, and her mother, Lucy Mildred Burch Pyland Wyatt, lived there in 1920. Also her youngest son, Bobby, was killed there after falling from a horse.
I believe I found Hattie in the 1880 census in Humphreys Co TN, but the local library did want to accept that it was her because her name was entered as Harriett - Hattie is a nickname for Harriett. Others listed there are
William C, 61, Louza M, 38, Louisa, 15, Walter E, 6, Mozela B, 4, Harriett, 2, and George M , 0. Have you concluded that this is Hattie in the 1880 census?
These names and ages correspond to Lucy Mildred, Lutie-from previous marriage, Walter E, Mozie, Hattie and George M - known names they were called. Thanks
