Pyatt Family Genealogy Forum

The Pyatt Estate, which my mom called the "Pyatt Plantation", is where the paper mill is today in the City of Georgetown, SC. Slaveowners John and Joseph Pyatt, brought slaves from Sierra Leone/Senegal region of Africa to work the rice fields. These africans were called "GeeChee", and the language they speak, even today is called "gullah". The "Black" Pyatt families in Georgetown, SC can trace genealogy to Lavinia Pyatt b. 1800, and her sister Hester Sparkman. My great-grandfather was James Pyatt b.1845, and his daughter Adele Pyatt b.1875 was my grandmother. Rudy Pyatt my mom's cousin, was the business editor for the Washington Post, and the Judge in Georgetown is a Pyatt.
As you know Michelle O. traces her family tree, from her great-great-grandad, (Jim)James Robinson, to the Black River section of Georgetown, SC, and her great-grand parents, Fraser Robinson was from Georgetown, SC
