Documents from the family of Benjamin Pyatt (son of Joseph Pyatt & Sarah Jane Still) do not mention a son, William Pyatt (who married Matilda Loving).

The only children mentioned in his bible are
Joseph D. Pyatt
17 May 1814 - 11 January 1862 m. Eliza Ellen Smith

John Harvey Pyatt 12 July 1821 - 10 July 1844 md. Cassie Louisa Smith

Elizabeth Matilda Pyatt 4 November 1823 - 3 January 1907 md Solomon Garrison

The idea that William Pyatt who md. Matilda Loving was the son of Benjamin Pyatt/Mary "Polly" Mira Fox originated from Mr. R. L. Pyatt of Valdez, North Carolina when he wished his daughter to join DAR. The family history was that William Pyatt was the son of one Benjamin Pyatt. Mr. R. L. Pyatt found a census showing Benjamin Pyatt (son of Joseph) had a son of the correct age to be his William (who md. Matilda Loving). DAR was not so careful at that time and accepted his proofs. None of the records of Benjamin Pyatt who married Mary "Polly" Mira Fox show a son William Pyatt.

William Pyatt who was the son of Joseph Pyatt married Cinthia A. Fox. They migrated to Knox Co., Tennessee with the Fox family about 1838/39 and are found on the 1840 census of Knox Co., Tennessee. However, they then moved to Cherokee Co., NC and are found on the 1850 and 1860 censuses in that county. William died 21 December 1862 in Cherokee County and his burial place is unknown The old Pyatt homeplace is now included in the Smokey Mountain National Forest. Cinthia went to Missouri and is found with the family of her son, Joseph Alfred Pyatt, in Wright County Missouri on the 1880 census. She then moved to Tennessee to live with her daughter, Hazy Matilda Pyatt Ferguson and died in Tennessee, probably Monroe Co., TN.
She was living at Longs Mills, Tennessee when she applied for a War of 1812 widow's pension in 1898. The exact date of her death and her burial place is unknown.

When the three sons of William Pyatt and Cinthia Fox emigrated to Missouri, the family of William Pyatt & Matilda Loving must have been on the same wagon train as they settled in Webster Co., Missouri and are found on the 1860 census of that county. They then moved to Arkansas and are subsequently found there.

There is surely some relationship between the two William Pyatts....Cinthia Fox' mother was Elizabeth Loving. So it is possible that all these families are cousins. I have never found any proof of the parents of William Pyatt who married Matilda Loving, but feel certain that his parents are NOT Benjamin Pyatt and Mary "Polly" Mira Fox because he is never mentioned in the documents of that family.
