Good news, bad news I guess. But news.

I did have him in IL 1930:

WILLIAM PUTNAM Chicago, Cook County
He is 32 MI MI MI. His wife Marie is 31 OH and they have a daughter Quinetance 6 MI. He is an electroplater for an auto parts manufacturer. Does the chrome bumpers and all that.

Didn't connect him to Michigan though.

And had him in 1910 as well, but no idea who he was:

WILLIAM PUTNAM Grand Rapids, Kent County
He is 12 MI and is enumerated with an orphanage/hospital. Don’t find him in 1900.

I also don't find him in 1920 but he was in Michigan.

Then, as I said in the 1910, I couldn't find him in 1900. Back when I did the 1900s, there were no indexes and all that was available were Soundex index cards. Now you can look them up on Ancestry and others. So, I gave it a try. BINGO! And wait till you see the month and year he was born:

DELMAR PUTNAM Bedford, Calhoun County
He is 25 MI MA ME July 1874 and has been married 4 years to Gertrude 21 MI MI MI born Apr 1878. They have Willie D. a son 2 MI Nov 1897 and Cleo I. 8/12 Sep 1899.

Bad news is I have no idea who Delmar was. Delmar's folks were from Mass and Maine. Delmar was somewhat common with the New York Dutch families, but not with the New Englanders.

Now ..... In 1910 I find this in MI:

DELMAR PUTMAN Battle Creek, Calhoun County
He is 31 MI and is living with his wife Minnie 23 SD and son Donald NR MI. There are tombstones in Pennfield Calhoun County that has him dying in 1942 and she in 1968. Never find them before or after though.

In looking at the 1900 Delmar's age looks more like 21 than 25. And don't forget the year was added later, not at the time the census was taken. So this guy may be the same one. Gertrude died or something, he palmed Willie off in an orphanage and married Minnie.

Good Luck. Let me know what you think.
