He is not my line, but this is what I have on him:-
James Webster Putman was a Baptist Minister and circuit rider.He served as a 2nd Lt. in the Union Army during the Civil War and was a Chaplain for the Infantry.He enlisted on May 17, 1862, and was in Captain Jacob Bowman's North Carolina Rangers.He was severely wounded September 20, 1863, at Chicamauga.He received a pension for this in 1905.
He was b. June 7, 1838; d. Sept. 24, 1914, Bakersville, Mitchell County, NC; m. May 3, 1858, Shelby, Cleveland County, NC, Martha Reed.Had 6 children...
