James Pursley/Purselley born Nov 25, 1819 in Roane Co., TN, married Martha Caroline Osborne June 24, 1841 in Roane Co.,She was the daughter of Sherwood Osborne and Mary "Polly" Cathy. I believe that James was the son of James Pursley and Phema. Martha C. died after 1870 in Black Oak Community, Carroll Co., AR James died December 20, 1907. The 1900 census Carroll Co., Long Creek Twp., he is listed in the home of his daughter Melissa Caroline Erwin. (Joseph)
He is buried in Denver Cemetery, Carroll Co., AR. I have pictures of his grave marker. He was in the Civil War. Hunters Regiment of the Cavalry, Company F 8th Missouri. I have his papers. James and Martha had 9 children Famey Jane b May 2, 1842 TN married Marcus Lafayette Orrell (my line) she died March 1, 1902 in Carroll Co., AR., Caswell Pursley b Nov 29, 1845 in TN, married Marcus's sister Sarah Emily Orrell. He died Dec 17, 1916 in Mambrino, Hood Co., TX, Mary Francis Pursley b March 16, 1849 in Missouri married Jermiah Howard Patty. She died May 8,1944 in McClake, Benton Co., Colorado.James Thomas Pursley born March 25, 1851 in Missouri and died after 1861. William Sherwood Pursley b January 25, 1853 in Carroll Co., AR married Sarah Emily Meek. He died Oct 31, 1942 in Loving, Young Co., TX
Sarah Lucinda Pursley b June 19, 1858 in Carroll Co., AR, John Jasper Pursley b June 14, 1859 in AR and Melissa Caroline Pursley b Nov 12, 1861 in Carroll Co., AR married Joseph "Joe" Johnson Erwin.
I have alot of information on this family, pictures and a copy of an old letter 1865 written to Martha Caroline from her mother, Mary "Polly" Cathy.
