John Purser, grandfather of James Monroe Purser , served in the Revolution. James Monroe Purser served in the War Between the States in Company "B" of the 28th Alabama Infantry Regiment. In that same company were his brothers, Moses Jeff Purser, and Richard Thomas Purser. James and Richard were captured at the Battle of Missionary Ridge, and held as POWs at Rock Island, IL.
