Hi Cathy,
This snippet u posted regarding military "Pursers", could you tell me if there was any more information, as I believe the George who enrolled in 1803 was my 4 times Great grandfather.
He married in 1802 and his first born was not until 1809 and I wondered why so perhaps this is why? Was it normal to serve for a certain length of time say 5 or 7 years like an apprentice? Where can I find out more regarding his service record? Was the National defense the militia , artillery or some other form of service? I have not looked at any war type records before other than my grandfathers WW2 service book which my aunty in Wales has.
