Hi Maureen,
I started researching my family tree a few months ago and initially I couldn't trace my paternal side further than my Gt Grandad, Percy Allen. However, after receiving help from several kind individuals on GenesReunited, I found that Percy was actually born Percy PURR but his mother, Emma, changed her name following the death of her husband, Joel Purr (maybe he was up to no good!).
So, in answer to your question, whilst I might not have the surname Purr, you are not alone!
It also seems that only a couple of generations ago some people with the surname Purr changed it to Parr.
