I'm trying to untangle some of the confusing Purington family history, so here goes. Joshua Purington (1672) (s. Lt. John (1635), s.George Puddington (1599), the immigrant) was said to have m. a dau. Durrel. there was no child of that marriage in his will. Joshua's (1672) brother,Hezekiah (1674/5), did not have a son, Joshua according to town records or anything else I've seen. Joshua (1672) did have a son Joshua b. abt. 1718 with his w. Damaris Jones, in Hampton, NH and although Joshua (1672) died in Epping, NH two of his daughters did go to Bowdoin, Maine or near there where they are found in marriage and other records. I believe it was this Joshua (1718) who went to Maine near his sisters where their grandfather had had land. I haven't researched him further but it seems likely that Capt. Joshua would have been his son.

The only other thing I noticed was that Mary Scammon, w. Hezekiah, was b. 1682 according to my records.

I hope this helps and doesn't just confuse you more!

Sue P.
