John Pulford, Rye, England c1748-1783

I am seeking the origins of my earliest known ancestor John PULFORD (c1748-1783) who lived in Rye, Sussex, England from about 1764 onwards. At the same time three other Pulfords; George, Charles and William also lived in the town. It’s believed they were all brothers or at the very least cousins as George was a witness at the marriage of John to Mary SPRINGATE in 1772.

The descendants of George and John, who were mainly mariners operating from Rye are fairly well documented.

Nothing is known of the family until they appeared in Rye in or about 1764. There’s no evidence in church or town records to confirm the Pulfords were born or lived there before that date, which raises the questions did they move to Rye and if so from where?

The family’s origins have proved a mystery to current family members over many years.

Do you hold the key to unlock this mystery?

Are of them missing links on your family tree?
