CB,

I have done quite a bit of work on this branch of Pughs. I believe that we are distantly related. This branch is first found in the Census data for Rose Township, Stark County, OH in 1820. The branch begins with Daniel Pugh who was born about 1773 in the Northwest Territory (OH). His wife is Catharine (b.c.1785).

By 1850, these Pughs were down in Washington County (Ludlow Township), OH. I have your lineage as follows:

Daniel Pugh (1773-185?)
+Isaac Pugh, Sr. (1817-1888)
++Isaac Pugh, Jr. (1847-1928)
+++James Pugh (1870-1909)
++++Forrest Chester Pugh (1896-1940)
+++++Cloyd Gilbert Pugh (1925-1968)

I have quite a bit of detail on this that I have pieced together just from online sources. It all needs to be proven. My hunch is that this line descends from Isaac Pugh (b.c. 1743, Orange County, NY). Isaac was the third son of Hugh Pugh I (1712-1754) and Helena Brink.

We need you to join the Pugh Surname DNA Project. If my preliminary research and hunch are correct, you will be the founder of a branch of Pughs who scattered around 1850 to points south and west. You will know as soon as your results are back if you descend from Hugh and Helena. We already have four participants in the Project that define this line.
