Hi Rick,

I am a great granddaughter of Alford K. Pruitt and Mary Elizabeth Varner. I don't have many pieces of the puzzle either, but will gladly share what I can. I have only just begun to compile bits and pieces of information and am just learning about genealogy and how it should be documented. I have not personally confirmed the information beyond William Ezra Pruitt, he was my grandfather and I am sure of his information.

My line is as follows:

Claudia June Pruitt, born Jul 31, 1952, daughter of James Wesley Pruitt born Nov. 13, 1921 in Rosebud, AR and Evie Elizabeth Whaley Pruitt.

James Wesley Pruitt is the son of William Ezra Pruitt (born Mar 14, 1873 in Banks County, GA, died Sept 22, 1959 in Duncan, Stephens County, OK and buried in Marlow Cemetery, Stephens County, OK) and Mary Talula Adams Pruitt. They are also the parents of the Alford K. Pruitt, January 27, 1898-June 22, 1899 you mentioned as a family member buried at Mr. Pisgah Cemetery. I have a copy of their family bible page giving his full name as Albert King Pruitt and birth and death dates matching the dates from the cemetery.

William Ezra Pruitt is the son of Alford King Pruitt and Mary Elizabeth Varner. The information that I have on Alford (Alfred?) K. Pruitt came mostly from the Later Day Saints web site at familysearch.org. and the information was submitted by Willis Goldston, 504 East 57th Street, Odessa, TX 79762. I believe he is decended from my father's sister Ethel. The information he gave on them is as follows: Alford K. Pruitt, Born June 30, 1854 in Banks County, GA, Died Sep 3, 1918 and married on Feb 9, 1872 to Mary Elizabeth Varner, born May 1, 1848 in Banks County, GA and died Dec 26, 1912. There is also a page on the LDS site for an Alfred K. Pruitt (I don't know if it is the same person, the names would be easy to interchange) showing him being on the 1854 census for Hart, Georgia and giving a fathers name as Emsson Pruitt.

I have a letter to my brother from a cousin Altha Duncan. The spelling changes often through the text of the letter. She says grandpa is Afred and grandma is Betty and spells Pruitt Puritt, so I don't vouch for the correctness of the spelling of the names. She lists Lindy, Margret, Etta, Addie, William, George, Lorrine and Corduroy as their children.

I have a copy of a picture supposedly from 1905, although I don't know who dated it or how. The names listed on the back of the picture are Aunt Lindy Cole, Aunt Mary Talula Pruitt (my grandmother, wife of William Ezra) Reuben Pruitt (son of William and Mary, my uncle) Aunt Margaret Pruitt, Aunt Addie Pruitt, Linis Cole, Elvett Haney and his wife Etta Haney, Ray Cole, Uncle Jim, Uncle William (my grandfather, William Ezra), Hubert Pruitt (son of William and Mary, my uncle), Grandma Betty Pruitt, William Haney, Grandpa Pruitt, Roy Haney, Uncle George Pruitt, Oria Pruitt, Aunt Ida Pruitt, Uncle John Pruitt, Dihalia Cole, Gracie Pruitt (daughter of William and Mary, my Aunt), Ethel Pruitt (daughter of William and Mary, my Aunt), Altha Haney, Pearl Cole, Corduroy Pruitt. The information in parenthesis is my addition, because I know those relationships. I believe the Altha Haney in the picture is the cousin Altha Duncan who wrote to my brother. I believe the people labeled Aunts and Uncles are probably sons and daughters (or sons & daughters-in-law) of Alford and Mary.

My brother attended a Pruitt family reunion in Searcy, Arkansas in 1986. Someone sent him a copy of the signin information, and many indicated what their relationship was to Alford and Mary Pruitt. My grandfather spelled the last name Pruitt, but apparently some of his siblings spelled it Pruett.

Etta Pruett Haney's daughter Altha Haney Duncan, and sons Johnnie Haney and Elmer Haney attended.

Altha Haney Duncan's daughters Martha D. Duncan Hallborn and Bernice Duncan Lawson, and sons Bobby Duncan and Billy Duncan attended. Etta's granddaughter Fonzines Landers Gillham (daughter of Sonia Haney Landers) also attended.

"Ad" Pruett Griffith's son Eugene Griffith and M.B. "Beed" Griffith and daughters Sarah Griffith Bridges and Stella Griffith Ramsey attended.

George Pruett's daughter Lester Pruett Boyd attended with her son Wilburn L. Boyd and daughter Shirley Boyd ___.

Malinda Pruett Scott Coles' (Aunt Lindy from picture & Altha's list?) son H. P. "Red" Coles attended with his son Richard and Grandson Chris. Malinda's son Rufus Coles attended with his daughter Billie Jean Coles Rogers. Malinda's son Clayton Coles widow, Luna Holden Coles attended with their daughter Brenda Coles Armstrong and her son James.

William Ezra Pruitt's children and grandchildren who attended were:
James Wesley Pruitt attended with his son Eddie Warren Pruitt (my father and brother).
William B. Pruitt attended with his daughter Louene Eisenbeck and her daughter Kyla.
Lillian Pruitt Williams attended with her son Dale Williams.
Hubert's (deceased) son Dewayne Pruitt and daughter Mrs. Amol Norman with her daughter Lois Norman and daughter Loretta Norman Smith and granddaughter, Lesley Smith attended.

Ethel Pruitt Williams' (deceased) daughter Vivian Williams West, daughter Betty Marie Williams Stookey and son Raymond A. Williams attended.

As you can see from the sigin list, your grandmother, Stella attended along with her sister and two brothers. Perhaps they would be a source of further information for you.

My grandfather was 79 years old when I was born, and died when I was 7 years old, so I only have childhood memories of him and nothing about his family. I would love to have any further information you can add to mine. Good luck.

Claudia Pruitt McClaran
