According to an article on the PRUDE Family which I found at the Mississippi Dept. of Archives & History several years ago, David Prude and Jonathan Prude were twins. I believe this was in a book called Bible Records, Miss. Society Daughters of the American Colonies 1949-1950, pp. 55-56:

John Prude, Sr. came from England in 1770, and landed at Charleston, SC. That same year he moved to Laurens Dist, and settled on the Enoree River near Columbia, SC, as shown by deeds recorded in Laurens Dist on Sept. 4, 1779; also, deeds recorded in Book B, p. 97, in the same District.

In 1806 the family moved to NC, and settled in Buncombe Co. Later they moved into TN and then to Jefferson Co, AL, where they located near Nabor's Spring, not far from Old Elyton (Birmingham), AL. John Prude, Jr. bought and settled on the plantation, near Old Elyton, AL, which was aferwards owned by Thomas Lightfoot Williams and later James Moore.

John Prude, Jr. was born in London, England in 1768; he died in 1817. He married in Laurens Dist, SC, Margaret (Peggy) Whitmore, born Nov. 22, 1774; died Apr. 22, 1856 in Tuscaloosa Co, AL. His brother, William Prude, was born Oct. 15, 1774; died Jan. 8, 1833 in Tuscaloosa, AL. He married 1st, Sarah Garrett, who died July 18, 1822; and 2nd, Mrs. Celia McAshan McAdory.

Margaret Whitmore, wife of John Prude, Jr., was daughter of John Whitmore and Alice Garrett Whitmore of SC. Her father, John Whitmore was killed during the Revolutionary War, leaving her mother with five little girls. After they were grown and married she married a Mr. Young. She is buried in the Bucksville cemetery, Tuscaloosa Co, AL.

David Prude, a twin brother of Jonathan Prude, was born Feb. 22, 1801, in Laurens Dist, SC. He died Oct. 22, 1864 in Pontotoc Co, MS, and is buried in the Pontocola cemetery, Pontotoc Co, MS. He married in 1829 in AL, Elizabeth (Eliza) Gabrella BRAMLETT....daughter of Jesse Hughes Bramlett and Esther Wellborn Bramlett. David Prude represented Pontotoc Co. in the Mississippi state legislature during the 1858 session.

I made a note at the bottom of the page which says there were more records on the Prude Family on p. 50.

I am a Bramlett family researcher and have nothing more on David Prude's family. However, I am interested in locating more information on his children and descendants. If you run across anyone from his line, I would love to know about it.

Hope this helps. Flo
