Jeffrey,
I think we can rule out Gilbert...I found him..."Gilbert Barnet", John Kellensworth, Rolly Dodson, Jacob Lines, John Burras, and John LeBow commissioned Ensigns in the Regiment of Hawkins County (Tn), during good behaviour August 15th 1797"...per Commission Book of Gov John Sevier...for Hawkins County Tn, transcribed by Mildred C Wasser.
This is same Greene/Hawkins/Jefferson Co area where Bro Barzillai Barnett/Barnard and sister Love Barnard Province, and parents Timothy/Love Barnard are living in 1799...Gilbert stayed just above Hawkins Co Tn border in Ky after 1799 it appears...he is on Tax Lists for Knox Co Ky in 1800-1802 with his father in law James Mahan (Gilbert md Margaret Mahan in Greene Co Tn ca 1800)...he's in Floyd Co Tn by 1810 census, where he signed a cert for marriage of his dau Nancy Barnett (Barnard) to James Moore on 20 Dec 1816, then also on the 1820 Floyd census...Gilbert Barnett next is listed on the Whitley County Ky tax records from 1822 to 1835, and on the 1830 Whitley County census:10100101-0211101.
By 1840 he is on the Laurel Co Ky census with 1M <5, 1M 5-10, 1M 20-30, 1M 60-70, 1F <5, 1F 15-20, 1F 40-50...He is listed living next to a Wiliiam Dunwoody (Dinwiddy?).
I'm having a hard time finding brother Job Barnard/Barnett, but its looking more & more like Barzillai is your ancestor.
